When comparing multiple terms, you can see which one dominates in different regions. The color intensity on the map shows how strong a search term is in each area.

Google Trends also highlights rising searches—terms that are gaining traction and this is exactly where things get interesting. If something is labeled "Breakout," it means search interest exploded by over 5000%. That’s the kind of trend you don’t want to ignore.

Of course, Google Trends filters out irrelevant noise—low-volume searches, repeated queries from the same person, and searches with special characters.

It also shows related searches, giving insight into what else people are looking for alongside your chosen term.

Now, here’s where this gets useful: combining Google Trends with News Consumer Insights (NCI). Google Trends tells us what’s popular globally, while NCI shows what’s trending on our site. Together, they help validate if a topic is worth covering, identify content gaps, and refine strategies based on audience interest.
